Title: This years plans finally came together
Post by: Nathan on June 08, 2016, 08:14:48 pm
It was tough this year with a lot of changes in plans but I think it has all fallen into place now. We're going to head south-south west out of Michigan down to the Ozarks. From there we'll head west across Ok, TX, NM and AZ with multiple stops along the way. We'll eventually end up at the Grand Canyon. Plan to see both south and north rims before heading for Zion. From there on to Monument Valley and then Mesa Verede. Might hang around in Colorado after that, time permitting before heading home. Should be a nice trip and I'm looking forward to it already but first DS gets to attend some Scout camps.

Nathan; that's the trip we want to do next year!!; The Southern tier..  thanks Paul for the heads-up on way points and what not on our excursion west; the northern route. We leave in 12 days!! We will be gone for 23.. The shipping company is getting the RV next Thursday and meeting us at Salt Lake Airport when our flight arrives the 21st.  Truly a "bucket list" trip for us!!  Nathan/Paul please post pictures; we'll do the same.

Meeting my brother who lives outside of Salt Lake City in a town on the Green River, called Dutch John; He owns a guided fly fishing business there; we're starting off with 2 days of Trout Fishing on the Green River! Then Dinosaur NP, Tetons, Yellowstone for a week camping at Fishing Bridge CG where Yellowstone Lake meets the Yellowstone River and the Yellowstone "Grand Canyon'. Rushmore, Badlands, etc.. Paul; we're going to hit Wisconsin Dells as recommended on the way home..  and of course Cedar Point..  can't friggin wait..

Safe Travels Nathan & Paul..

Sounds like fun.  Another D&T member has already hit me up about some TX locations and in the Ozarks (just got back from there).  Let me know if you would like some recommendations on stops along the way (can recommend some good places and some not-so-good places as well.  As you're planning, lemme help you from someone who can provide assistance with any aspect, lemme know!

Sure, we're just quickly checking out the Ozarks, but a recommendation would be great. In Tx we were thinking of checking out Palo Duro canyon I think, but we're open to other ideas not too far from I40.

The Ozarks are nice but we weren't built for this humidity. Tried to stay cool on the water and in the pool.  (http://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20160801/f579c5581f0a891a7791421ada77fe72.jpg)

Ft Smith National Historic Site was a neat place to visit, don't miss it if you're driving through.

Stopped in Texas in Palo Duro Canyon. The second largest in the US. The campground is in the bottom with a 10% grade. Better check your brakes first!  Even hotter but lower humidity. Still 100 deg is hot. (http://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20160803/15ea62239a305b6936bfe2049c4ec939.jpg)

Albuquerque is cooler.

Here's a storm in AZ.

It missed us.

Hit several parks today. The surprise was El Morro National Monument. It's an oasis in western NM where people carved names in to the sandstone walls near the water pool, including, petroglyphs from native Americans, Spanish conquistadors, settlers, etc.  it's absolutely amazing to look at graffiti including names and dates in both English and Spanish and be able to relate it to history lessons from school.

Isn't the Southwest amazing?  I mean, not for driving because its pretty boring and windy, but neat treasures all over!

The photo looks photoshopped but it was real, as was the beer!  (It was a micro brewed Hefeweizen). The South rim is cliffs and tourists. The north rim is relaxing on a porch drinking in the scenery.
