Hey Dan:
I had to make a move too: My old HP was about 5 or 6 years old. It was one of the first laptops with a quad core Intel processor. It still is able to keep pace with the average Intel I5 dual core just about anything has. About a year ago DD knocked my coffee over into the keypad and I had to replace the keypad. Everything was fine then about 6 months ago the webcam stopped working which sucked cuz I do a bit of Skype. So I bought a usb webcam. Then the Bluetooth quit... then the card reader quit...and hen all the touchpad controls above the keypad quit. time to upgrade..

I bought this

Damn, not too shabby.   You spent much less than I did and got a great machine.   Jealous!!!

I had an impossible wish list to fulfill without laying out the cash.   It is kind of like try to buy a car with a feature you really want but cannot get without buying a $5k package of other stuff.   You could not get the NVIDIA 780 graphics card without upgrading a whole bunch of other stuff.   I must say the computer we got is a monster with awesome performance.   The power supply is the size of a brick.   When I plug it in while camping, I swear I can hear the Honda generator pick up the load, she is a beast.

Now the daughter wants a new desktop for Christmas.   :o   She is only 13 so she cannot get a job.   I have her cleaning up the leaves this fall to earn it.   That may not sound like much to some of you folks, but let me tell you, it is.   Leaf cleanup here takes about two months, well into November.   First, the Maples and Ash go, then the Oaks well into late November.  Hundreds of bags of leaves, you have to work nearly every day to stay on top of it.   So we will see where this goes, so far I am not seeing much initiative on her part, but she is only 13.

I am considering building my own, I think I can build a pretty decent machine for around $1000 (minus the monitor).  Next project .............

DAN
