Can anyone recommend a good campground in Wakins Glen State Park?

Beautiful park. Mohawk  village for electric hookup. The sites between 82 and 97 are on a long flat road with wide and deep spaces. There are a couple of water spigots in that are close to 97 and close to 83. If you bring a long hose (200'), and stay near one of the spigots, you will be able to add fresh water directly. Dealing with gray and black require a tote though. There are other sites in that loop that are pretty and may be deep enough for a large trailer, but the camp road in those areas has a lot of bends and rises - making navigation in and out of the site a challenge. If I remember correctly (it has been several years), 51, 41, 52 and  104, 105 are also reasonable for larger trailers.

The popupexporer forum use to have a rally there every year (always in the Mohawk loop), so you might try asking there for info on whether a specific site would fit your trailer. I had my 32' trailer in site 97 in the 2009 rally, and that site was huge. Several others had big fivers in sites on that stretch of road, but I can't remember which sites they had.

The gorge hiking is fantastic. Check out the Corning Glass Museum, if you have time.

We were also looking for something in the Watkins Glen area and opted for Robert H. Treman State Park.  We have reservations for the later part of June.  When are you planning to be in the area?

Thanks for the tip Clark!  Looks like a beautiful park that we will be sure to keep on our radar for a day trip.  We love hiking and would love to discover the waterfalls at the park.

Sounds Nice! We are looking to go over to the Catskill area of NY this year to visit my father. Going to be going to one of a couple campgrounds there. Don't know a lot about them! Ought to be interesting!

@H2OSprayer:  Not sure yet, I'm trying to decide when it will be the prettiest. Most likely the Fall, with all the colors.

@Clarkely:  Thanks for the Ricketts Glen SP suggestion. I do want to go for the waterfalls. I'll look into that park as well.  :D

Thanks guys, I appreciate the feedback.

Have a great day,
Tami

Tami - with Ricketts so close - you need to go there if even just for a day trip .... I kinda thought you may have been there before at some point ........ it is Beautiful!!! But no hook ups at all.....just so you are aware..... and a 18% grade if driving in from the south......

BUT BEAUTIFUL!!!!!

BUT BEAUTIFUL!!!!!

18% :yikes: The Mount Washington auto road averages ~12% (with a few 18ish percent spots) and that will get you breathing heavy hiking it.
